A tattoo is wearable art that will last forever. The price of creating pieces like this depends on the size, location, and complexity of the design.

Once the commission is accepted and design is determined, a general price range will be given for your consideration if requested. Unless there are significant changes or unforeseen circumstances, you will not be charged more than the highest amount estimated.

If significant design changes are requested within three days of your appointment, this will result in a cost change from the initial estimate.

how do I set up an appointment?

You can find the booking form          Please fill it out with as much detailed information as possible. The more developed your idea, the easier it will be to understand. Don't forget to upload your photos too!

Your artist will review your concept to see if you are a good fit and let you know as soon as they arrive at a decision. If selected, you will schedule a consultation and set a date for your tattoo with your artist. We will get back to you as soon as we are able!

how do I prep for an appointment?

Some helpful tips for your upcoming appointment:
  • Eat a healthy meal about 3 hours in advance. It's important to go into your appointment with stable blood sugar levels.
  • Avoid intense sun exposure. Sunburns or peeling skin can seriously interfere with the tattooing process.
  • Moisturize your skin around the area of the tattoo
  • Do not consume alcohol or drugs. This can thin the blood and lead to excessive bleeding. In the state of Oregon, it is illegal to tattoo anyone who appears visibly intoxicated and you will be refused service.
  • Try to limit your caffeine intake (approximately one cup of coffee prior to your appointment)
  • Shower before the appointment. We love clean, moisturized skin!

what should I bring?

You can bring anything that will make you feel comfortable! Some examples might be:
  • A blanket
  • Snacks/drinks
  • Headphones or a book
  • A friend (try to give your artist a heads up on this one so we can make sure there's seating and space)

Please do not bring:
  • Pets
  • Small children (we love them but a tattoo studio is not a safe space for little hands)

how much do tattoos cost?

The price of a tattoo depends on the size, location, and complexity of the design. Our minimum is $100.

If requested, I will provide a general price range for your consideration. Unless there are significant changes or unforeseen circumstances, you will not be charged more than the highest amount estimated. My quote is based on a rate of $125 per hour for tattoo services and $50 per hour for design.

I require a $100 nonrefundable deposit in order to secure your appointment. This deposit will come off of the total price once your tattoo is complete.

how small is too small?

All tattoos will blur and settle over time. A good rule of thumb is to think of the lines in your tattoo doubling in size over the life of the piece.

A good design will have plenty of negative space and "breathing room" to allow for legibility as it ages. Micro portraits or very small lettering is unfortunately a risky choice. Next time you see a tattoo like this, hold your phone out at arms length and squint. That is most likely what that tattoo will look like within two years time.

If your artist suggests making your tattoo larger, it's best to heed their advice. If you are not willing to go larger, you can work with your artist to change the design to accommodate a smaller size.

However, beautiful small tattoos are absolutely possible! Just make sure you select a tattoo artist with a background in fine line work to design and execute it for you. We love fine line at AC!

will my tattoo hurt?

Everyone has a different perception of pain and many different factors can influence how you experience your tattoo on the day of your appointment. Things like sleep, hunger, caffeine, and stress could all be contributing factors to how being tattooed might feel. In general, there's no need to fret over the pain. Expect a tolerable irritation similar to a cat scratch.

Anecdotally, the head, forearm ditch, inner bicep, ribcage, hands, fingers, inner thigh, calf and foot are generally reported as the more painful areas to be tattooed.

policies

scheduling

Should you need to reschedule, please notify your artist at least three or more days in advance so we can reschedule your appointment. Should you fail to inform us prior to this time frame, you will forfeit your deposit for that appointment.

We allow up to two reschedules per appointment. After that, a new deposit will be required and the original deposit will be forfeit.

You are allowed to use your original deposit towards a reschedule up to six months after the initial appointment was cancelled. After this, you will forfeit your initial deposit and will require a new one to secure another appointment.

risks associated with tattoos

It's important to be well informed prior to your tattoo appointment. Do your research on the tattoo aging process, skin conditions, healing, or any other concerns you may have.

Some things to consider about tattoos:
  • While tattoos are becoming more popular, there are some cultures where they may not be welcome. It is important to consider how tattoo content or location could impact future jobs, relationships, or how you are perceived.
  • A tattoo is a permanent piece of art on your body. While there are laser procedures to remove them, there is currently no known method to remove a tattoo completely.
  • Inflammation, infection, allergy, or complications are all possible risks with tattoos. Despite compliance with the utmost hygiene and sanitation standards, there is always the risk of a reaction. Should you have any concerns, we strongly recommend consulting a doctor or dermatologist prior to scheduling your appointment. Artist will be as thorough as possible with aftercare instructions, but ultimately you are responsible for the healing of your tattoo.

We are happy to provide as much information as we can, but make sure you do your own research and consult any necessary resources for your specific concerns.

aftercare

dos and don'ts

Aftercare and healing is important for the integrity of the piece and outcome of the tattoo. Immediately after your appointment, your tattoo is particularly vulnerable and certain activities should be avoided. Here are a few tips to follow for the first two weeks:

  • Avoid soaking the tattoo for two weeks after your appointment (no swimming)
  • Keep your tattoo covered and protected from the sun
  • Do not use an abrasive or exfoliant on your tattoo
  • Do not pick at your tattoo
  • Avoid wearing tight or abrasive clothing over your tattoo
  • It is typically best to avoid strenuous physical activity or heavy sweating for about 48 hours after your tattoo

second-skin healing

When you leave your appointment a bandage or covering will be applied to seal your tattoo from any outside elements. Typically, a medical adhesive bandage (e.g. second-skin bandages) is used. Here are some tips for healing a tattoo with a second-skin bandage:

  • Generally, this bandage will stay applied for 5-7 days before it is recommended that you remove it.
  • You may notice a build up of plasma under your bandage, causing the tattoo to appear blurred. This is expected, normal, and generally a good sign.
  • While the second-skin bandages are durable, the area should still be treated gently. Avoid any friction or chaffing over the bandage as it will cause it to lift and pull up.
  • Once it is removed, your tattoo is mostly healed! It is recommended that you follow the above guidelines for the first two weeks, but the bulk of the healing process has been completed.

traditional healing

In some cases, the second skin bandage cannot be used. This is a much slower process than second-skin healing and requires more attention on the client's part, so it is generally a final option. However, it is absolutely possible for tattoos to heal beautifully using this method. Here's how:

  • Keep your tattoo clean! Bacteria is the enemy of a tattoo, so it is important to be aware of what your skin is coming in contact with. With clean hands, gently cleanse the area at least twice within the first 24 hours of your tattoo.
  • After the first day, continue gently washing your tattoo at least twice per day for the first week. We recommend air drying as towels can harbor bacteria.
  • Begin using aftercare products once your tattoo starts to feel tight or itchy. Find the balance of hydrated, but not too hydrated. This will be person specific and you are the best judge for your own skin.
  • After a week or so, expect to see ink-colored, smooth, flexible scabbing. Do not pick these off! They are completely normal and an important part of the healing process.
  • It takes about a month for your tattoo to fully heal and these scabs to fall away naturally. Underneath you will see your beautiful new tattoo!

continued care

As always, keep your tattoo protected from the sun. After healing is complete, use products that contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for protection against UVA and UVB sunlight. We also recommend keeping up with a moisturizing routine. All this will help keep your tattoo protected and looking its very best.
